People of Manchester have gathered at the Glade of Light Memorial in tribute to the 22 people that tragically lost their lives in the Manchester Arena Bombing.
It has been 8 years since 22 people lost their lives when Salmen Abedi detonated a bomb in a suicide attack at Manchester AO Arena.
At 22:31, Abedi detonated his bomb in the Foyer of the Arena, killing himself along with 22 other victims. It has been described by Manchester Councillor Leader Bev Craig ‘one of the darkest days in Manchester's history.’
Each year since, Manchester has come together to honour the memory of those that tragically lost their lives.

This year, floral tributes have been laid at The Glade of Light Memorial, and two 1 minute silences have been held at Manchester Victoria. One was held at noon and the other at 22:31, the exact time of the attack.
The Glade of Light Memorial is situated in the Medieval Quarter, just next to Manchester Cathedral. It opened in January 2022 and ‘honours the 22 people whose lives were taken, as well as remembering everyone who was left injured or affected.’ Their Royal Highnesses the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge attended the official opening of the Glade of Light memorial on Tuesday 10 May 2022.

Manchester Lord Mayor Carmaine Grimshaw and Council Leader Bev Craig both laid floral tributes at The Glade of Light ‘on behalf of the city’.
The Glade of Light was busy all day with hundreds of visitors coming and going to show their respects. This ranged from balloons, flowers, teddy bears and hand written notes. There were also handmade hearts hung all around the area of the memorial which visitors could take home as another sign of remembrance.
Floral tributes have been laid by each persons name on the marble circle.
Craig finished her statement by saying ‘We remember them throughout the year but each anniversary is especially poignant.’
